I have only seen two women with pierced nipples who began breastfeeding.
Although I generally work with breastfeeding moms for a short period of time,
these moms didn't notice any problems with the pierced nipple. There weren't
been any complaints of increased soreness or sensation problems. The hospital
policy is to recommend expressed colostrum for nipple care. Colostrum could
be expressed. I recommended that the women keep the ring or other jewelry out
of the nipple. As I said, my follow-up consists of one telephone call and an
invitation to call me with any concerns.
So much for my .02
