I am wondering if anyone in Georgia can tell me if Medicaid will cover
post-partum lactation services. I asked the Business Office at my hospital,
and they said that Medicaid considered it part of the PP stay and would not
consider individual counselling with a diagnosis (ICD-9) reimbursable. I
find this very hard to believe. I am not a certified lactation consultant,
but I do feel I know my limits as to what I feel I can handle and what I must
refer to an IBCLC. Will Medicaid reimburse the hospital if a charge is sent
for counselling a mom with bf problems (sore nipples, inadequate weight gain,
etc). I know they will pay for counselling by our RDLD for nutrition
counselling (for diabetic diet counselling, etc), but she is not as
bf-knowlegeable or as much an advocate as I am. Thanks!!
