Diane, try:
American Academy of Pediatrics, Committee on Nutrition, On the
Feeding of Supplemental Foods to Infants PEDIATRICS
vol 65 #6 June 1980
Basically it says exclusive BF or formula feed for at least 4 to 6 months.
It does note that juice can be OFFERED (my emphasis) when child can drink
from a cup (for a non BF thinking person that means at least 4 months, not
cupfeeding as we think of it).
p.s. this policy statement has some bad info on BF (i.e. that water should
be given as part of a feed in case baby is thirsty - sometimes breast or
bottle is offered "in the mistaken belief that the crying indicates hunger").
Hope this helps,
Debbie
