Janet Simpson describes a lactation consultant who insists on putting babies
to her own breast in order to do a suck assessment (among other things).
This is clearly not an acceptable practice. A complaint can be made in
writing to the IBLCE Discipline Committee. Only written, signed statements
can be accepted. Write to: IBLCE, Discipline Committee, P O Box 2348,
Falls Church VA 22042-0348 USA. IBLCE's most important mission is to
protect the health of breastfeeding mothers and babies, and safe and
effective lactation consultant practice is certainly a critical element in
that protection.
Jay, I really enjoyed your other comments about trying to get publicity for
LCs. Thanks for some great suggestions, and I'll hope to see some more on
LactNet!
