Reply to: RE>delayed onset jaundice
Hi everyone,
Has any of you had experience with "heriditary late onset jaundice"? A
5-week-old boy has developed jaundice three days ago. The doctor calls it
breast milk jaundice and advises to wean.
The mother says that this phenomenon "runs in the family" and that she also
became jaundiced a few weeks after birth. I asked her to go back to her mother
and others who can answer questions about which babies were breastfed, which
ones were not, which ones were weaned from the breast because of this kind of
jaundice, whether it made a difference, etc.
Would you know of any causes of jaundice? Infection? Blood weakness? Liver
disfunction? As I see it, it is pathologic, rather than physiologic, and
breast milk has nothing to do with it. Your input will be appreciated.
TIA, Nicole Bernshaw
