Hello:

I am a brand new lactneter - hoping to find lots of helpful
info online. I am a registered nurse and hospital based LC with
8 years of experience. I often find a need to talk to others who
have "been there" with certain breastfeeding situations. I think
the lactnet will be very helpful in dealing with unique
situations. I am only one of two LC's in our entire county
(York, PA) and the workload is very great. The good news is that
a co-worker is waiting to hear results of this years exam and
then I will have a partner! YEAH!!! Now onto my first request
for info:
I recently had a mother with a breast reduction that had been
done in Germany. (She was German, living in U.S.) The scar was a
classic T underneath the breast but with a flap around the
areola (Circumareolar only with nipple completely intact with
full sensation).
Initially she was able to pump out 1-2 oz with a double elec.
pump. when infant was found to have a latch problem and IUGR.
Was readmitted for hyperbili at 8 days and mother did not wish
to supplement. The baby progressed to full formula after 15 days
for FTT despite SNS use with maternal expressed milk qs. to
cause normal growth. Has anyone out there had experience with
this specific reduction and outcomes? I suppose even though milk
was produced, it might have been low calorie? Mom declined a
milk analysis for fat content.
I was able to find a new wonderfully pictoral book called
Circumareolar Techniques for Breast Surgery by Wilkinson, Aiache
and Toledo in our library with a 1995 copyright. Unfortunately
it does not discuss outcomes related to breastfeeding but does
mention this techniques as being less invasive and more
appropriate if a mom desires to breastfeed at a later time.
I would appreciate any responses.
