While Tom Hale's comments reflect the current literature (only one or two
cases, as I recall), I have worked with a mother who had her baby's blood
levels checked. She was on Prozac throughout pregnancny and continued
breastfeeding.
Cord blood AND blood of baby at 4 mo after exclusive breastfeding was in
below normal levels expected for her dosage, suggesting that HER baby with
HER dosage (continuous and for many months) was not something she needed to
worry about. Her MDs were supportive of her continued use.
I know, just one more case, but it does suggest that what osccurs in one
mother or two may not occur in all mothers. Word from MDs in California
(where nearly everyone seems to be on Prozac) is that they have observed no
problems either. (Or is that just in California?) :-)
Individuality seems to be something we MUST remember here.
Def. of LC service: "We are all faced with a series of great opportunities
brilliantly disguised as impossible situations."
