Gabi,
This may seem like a stupid question, but did the baby display any other
symptoms of hypoglycemia, such as significant tremors? Also, I wasn't
quite sure if the IV was saline or glucose--- the latter is also a risk
factor for postnatal hypoglycemia. And I am wondering about the accuracy
of the chem-strip.... as I understand it, they can have a high error rate.

The best discussion of this topic, with references, can be found in
Riordan & Auerbach's book. I have fought this battle at the local
hospital, and so far this is the only ammunition I've come up with. Of
course, I haven't done any extensive searching, yet, either.....

According to the text, IV glucose is less instrusive than bottles, which
makes sense, and also works more smoothly than oral therapy. I think, if
the results were true, that the mom got decent care with IV + bfg; I'm
not nearly so sure that the panic was warranted, but will watch with
interest everyone else's comments.

-Lisa
