I've just read the Lactnet guidelines finally and have tried the
introduction twice. Please be patient with me a I learn the system. My
name is Cindy Church. I'm a R.N. and IBCLC from Lansing, Michigan. I've
worked as a public health nurse for 16 years, the last 11 for Ingham County
Health Department in Lansing. Since 1992 I have served as a lactation
consultant and PHN for low income, high risk wormen needing help or wishing
the support of an LC. The boss who worries about money was happy because
through the Maternal Support Services and Infant Support Services program
through Medicaid and the State of Michigan, the health Department was
reibursed for the PHN visits, usually done in the home. However, I'm taking
an educational leave in 4 weeks to return to school in order to get my MSN
in the Family Nurse Practioner Program at MSU. I hope, of course to have a
pediatric focus and to be able to still use my skills as an LC. It is
exciting and scarey.
I also work in private practice as a lactation consultant in the Lansing
area, following in the footsteps of Susan Maher (who recently obtained her
Masters in Secondary Ed for those of you who know her.). Changes aare slow
in lansing but they are happening: Sparrrow has just hired a Lactation
Consnultant.
My interests: surviving two teenage daughters, ages 18 and 16; gently
guiding the older one out the door to college, planting perennials in our
backyard, deciding on a topic for a thesis, and ....,
reading my Lactnet messages! I regret not being able to attend ILCA this
year and probably will never miss another. If you can, rent a car for a day
and take a trip to Sedona-gorgeous scenary. I am so jealous.
Thanks for creating Lactnet!
