In reply to Fiona Coombs questions (I was out of town for awhile, so you
may already have seen something like this--I haven't yet called up the
archives for last week), here is my experience.

I have seen similar things happen with mothers not using N.... pumps. The
usual pattern is good working experience with the pump in the beginning.
Usually more than enough milk, mother is relaxed and comfortable with the
pump, not experiencing trauma, etc.  All is well.j

Then.... days or weeks later,  pump is not working well. Yet it is
unchanged (from an engineering/structural standpoint), suction is still
there, etc.

I attribute this to changes in breast shape (Fiona mentioned mother now
feels softer) and thus, the closer of the flange around the breast is a
less optimal "fit".

I have moms change pumps and that usually does the trick.  Fiona, write me
privately for specific details.
