Today, I taught my prenatal BF class. A mother (second time ) came up to me
and asked me about a lump that she has on the left breast. With her first
baby, she got engorged in a wedge of the breast (same area). It eventually
went away and she reports that breast was the best producer of the 2. THis
time, she is having the lump prenatally. The male OB-Gyn told her it might
be cancer and if it did not go away soon she would have to have it checked.
She then consulted a female MD in the practice who felt both breasts and
thinks it is just a milk gland/duct that is "harder". The mother's question
to me was "Will this affect emptying of that area." I asked her about
previous breast surgery (none) and then I asked her about injuries to the
breast. She was hit with a baseball (or soft ball) on that breast years ago,
but did not recall exactly where (the area affected is upper side near
axillary area.) She looked at my breast model and thought that it felt like
an enlarged gland (one of the back ones). I'm thinking possible scar tissue
from an injury. She wants to believe the female doctor, but does not want to
ignore a possibly dangerous condition. She is due in 2 weeks and plans to
wait and see. Has anyone had a similar case?
