I will have been an LLLL for 20 years next May. I've been a Leader in Missouri,
Illinois, Indiana, New Jersey and Puerto Rico. Thank Heavens LLLI"rules" have
kept me out of all the different "political activisms (sp)" that have existed in
all these different places. In that way, I could make friends in each new
place, secure in the knowledge that whatever *other* beliefs we had, we all
believed in breastfeeding, family first and mother-child relationships as being
a priority.
LLLI has never prevented anyone from becoming an activist - we just must do it
on our own time with our own titles - not the title of LLL Leader. In our
meetings and when we represent League - we should follow their rules - but on
our own time - have at it!
One mother at a time - nothing can *really* be changed unless it is done "One
heart at a time." Whether it is talking to a newly-pregnant mom, a student nurse
or and experienced L & D Head Nurse - we must effect change one person at a
time.
And to tell the truth - there is NOTHING like seeing that ONE baby who was
really driving you crazy - latch on an nurse happily. We get repaid - one baby
at a time!
