Dear Anne!
In regards your question of a mom drinking and then how long to
wait before bf'ing: I went to Dr. Hale's session in Atlanta last
year and this question came up. His answer was first of all most
everything in moderation is OK. Secondly, by the time the alcohol
reaches the breast milk it has been seriously diluted. And for
someone who has to have a "time" frame, he said the diluted alco-
hol peaks about 3 hr after being ingested. So if a mom wants to
get the least amount of diluted stuff into her baby, she should
nurse before she drinks or right at the beginning OR wait 3 hours
after. Hope this helps.
