Dear Anne,

I have a slightly different attitude about LLLmeetings....and bf classes. I
have been to both, taught/led both, and I feel that many problems that bf
women expereience could have been prevented by prior exposure of parents to
bf. Most women who are fried, frustrated, exhausted, and fed up are women
who have had no exposure to bf, mothering, etc...and who are shocked and
horrified by what mothering and bf is really about...by the intensity of the
commitment. By attending a LLL meeting, mothers to be can SEE babies, SEE
mothers nurse babies, and can see how's it done...

This beats a bf class, in my opinion,...seeing is believing....

My humble opinion....

PS About the universal precautions and lc consults, visits, etc...I still
stand my ground...If I touch breastmilk (and I find this hard NOT to do
during consults...), I wear gloves. I dont see how this sends the message
to a mother that bf is "dirty"....

I have a friend who when she does her suck assessment....turns to the
parents (if they have a good sense of humor...) and says "safe suck"....They
all laugh, and the moment is diffused.

Again, my humble opinion.
