To comment on this further, there are ways to determine if baby is cutting
off circulation on mom's niple. Place your finger at the TMJ and you will
feel an extreme amount of tension at that joint, additionally, the
nasal-labial crease will be tense and more prominent and the mylohyoid and
digastric muscles (under the chin) will possible be tensed more than they
should. and there is always the digital-oral assessment. If you perform one
with and without the use of milk, what the baby does on your finger will be
similar if not exact to what he or she does on the breast. If your fingertip
or entire finger feels nub or like circulation is being cut off, bingo,
compression is most likely also happening on the breast.
I think in a case like this, a digital-oral assessment is a must. And many
babies lkike these assessments. Some do not. For those who are aversive, you
have gathered significant data by finding this out.
