Janet,

It's so frustrating when from the outside the solution to a mother's bf
problem is fairly clear to us. Yes the SNS will work - both to increase milk
supply and to provide nurturance at breast if it doesn't. The critical factor
is what the mother wants to do. Some are turned off by all the technology we
can offer. Others latch right onto to it (pardon the pun !). What I suggest
is that she try the SNS just once or twice a day - take the pressure off and
see if that helps her be more receptive.  The same with pumping. We know the
more stimulation the better but it's overwhelming to some to be told to pump
two hourly.  I think stress relief - massage, sleep, find out what she wants
most - works wonders in the dairy department. And a good cry helps too,
specially for Mums who need to be in control. Give her permission- tell her
it's OK.
