>I had a mother last year breastfeeding her 9mo, second baby, with a large
malignant mass on her right breast (approx 3"x5"). I went very carefully
when she was diagnosed (1st physcian suggested she had mastitis and bad put
her on flucloxcycillin) and suggested she ask her oncologist if she could
continue to breastfeed until surgery, as this was such a devastating
prognosis. All her physcians were horrified when she suggested this and I
thought it was such a shame that she had to lose not only her breast but
also the breastfeeding relationship so quickly. I have heard that she is
doing well now. Maybe if she had been able to continue until she decided to
stop she would have felt more in control of her situation
