Hello,
I'm pleased to be on the Lactnet. I'm a social worker who has worked in
Maternal and Child health programs for the last eight years. For the past
four I have been at the Office of Breastfeeding Services, part of the
Arkansas Department of Health, where I coordinate the Peer Counseling
program, edit the newsletter, answer calls on our 800 line and participate in
training health professionals statewide. I was a member of La Leche League
when my nine year old was a baby and again with my four year old, and have
remained interested in breastfeeding. I've developed a particular interest
in parenting philosophies prevalent in this country that are incompatible
with breastfeeding (trying to figure out why they are so prevalent) and have
made presentations to various groups on the history of childrearing methods,
misconceptions about spoiling and the importance of touch, and cultural
aspects of breastfeeding. I also do the breastfeeding promotion and the
communication parts of the peer counselor training and other aspects of the
training, varying from time to time.
I just took the IBLCE test on Monday and am still recuperating!! I'd be
interested to hear from others who took it.
Sincerely,
Lucy Towbin
