Elisa: There's a review of the risk factors for allergy which summarizes
all the factors and goes over what data back each up. It's Zeiger RS, et
al. Effectiveness of dietary manipulation in the prevention of food
allergy in infants. J Allergy Clin Immunol July1986, Vol78,No.1,Part 2,
pp224-237. Among other things, it has a table entitled Risk factors in
development of atopy, including parental atopy, early solid foods,
nonbreast feeding (sic), season of birth, increased infant IgE. They cite
three references regarding early solid food introduction. I'll list
those although I have not read them: Fergusson DM, et al. Eczema and
infant diet. Clin Allergy 11:325, 1981; Fergusson DM, et al: Asthma and
infant diet. Arch Dis Child 58:48, 1983; and Kajosaari M, Saarinen UM:
Prophylaxis of atopic disease by six months' total solid food
elimination. Arch Paediatr Scand 72:411, 1983. Hope this helps.
