This issue of tight and underwire bras causing plugged ducts was a major
sticking point between those of us writing the breastfeeding booklet for
our hospital (our LC wrote as an answer about what if any bra is
necessary for breastfeeding that underwire bras are best avoided, as they
could lead to plugged ducts) and the spokeswoman for the patient
education committee, who insisted on seeing the research. I know all
about the frustration of having to "prove" everything, when abm doesn't
have to "prove" anything, but we were making a real effort to put only
research-based info in our booklet, so we searched high and low for data,
and found no studies to back us up. Even in Riordan and Auerbach, there
is mention of it but no studies cited. Does anyone know of any, or is
this one of these anecdotal issues? Thanks, Alicia. [log in to unmask]
