And my Timothy was born at home - during a thunderstorm - no electricity - by
candlelight - in his great-great grandmother's bedroom (very romantic) - and
the midwife didn't make it - until the placenta part - fortunately Bob is a
type D personality so didn't go bonkers when he realized he had to catch the
baby.  And I realized I was the only one there that knew how to deliver a
baby, so had to coach him on cord around the neck and anterior & posterior
shoulders in between pushes.  It was wonderful.  All that to say that Timo
was born at 7:25 pm, couldn't latch on - and then slept from 11:00 to 7:00
am.  (I tried to wake him a couple of times, but he was absolutely down for
the count.)  So I think normal may vary.  My birth was totally
non-interventive, but labor was fast.  He's the reason I'm an LC today -
never did do well at bf, though we persisted with supplementation for a year.
 Sigh.
