While doing an on-line search for recent publications on breastfeeding, I
came across a reference to a short article titled "Breastfeeding -- A
Neglected Pro-Life Issue."  It was published in January, 1995, in a Roman
Catholic magazine called "America."  Our university library has a
subscription, and I went and read it, then made a bunch of copies.  It is
really a very nice article, very current on the medical research about the
benefits of breastfeeding and the dangers of infant formula (sorry, I can't
bring myself to call it ABM, as a child of the late 1960s, that acronym
means anti-ballistic missile to me).  Anyway, the article was very
life-affirming, very supportive of the importance of breastfeeding to
mother, baby, and mother-baby pair, and suggests that promoting
breastfeeding is a very important, but neglected, pro-life issue.  If any of
you work in Catholic hospitals, or have Catholic clients, this might be a
good article to provide people.  It is short (3 pages), written for the
layperson, and very upbeat.
