Thanks Glenda for your story.  You've just shined light on the darkness of my
little brain re: a question I've had for years.  My little sister has had 4
babies (#2 died at 17 days of Strep B meningitis, so don't know what the
brfding course would have been).  With *all* babies she began with severe
nipple pain (she called it the "electric chair" experience) which lasted
weeks.

As is my usual--I can always seem to help everyone around me except those I'm
closest to--I was unable to relieve her pain.  We took her to many LCs,
including some who are world-renowned and neonatal chiropractor, etc. all to
no avail.  Eventually, with each of the 3 living babies the pain goes away.

Knowing that her diet isn't great and that she really pigs out on dairy
during pregnancy, I now wonder if it just takes her body a few weeks to get
calcium/magnesium and other mineral levels back to nl following her very
intense births.

Somehow I missed mention of magnesium in JHL.

BTW, my son called nursing Tutu (who knows why) during the time Desmond Tutu
was in the news.  Everyone was amazed that he kept calling out the Bishop's
name!  :>)
