  Drug Company = Formula Company?

As a pharmacist and lactation consultant, I think it is highly interesting
that within 6 months of Sandoz buying Gerber (May 1994) that Syntocinon
(oxytocin) nasal spray is no longer being made (the injectable form still
is
being made.) Why did they stop producing this medication? Not enough
demand
for it? Just as more people are becoming aware that this medication might
be
helpful in special breastfeeding situations, it disappears, coincidence???.
I think not!! I suspect it is a purely political move.

According to the Wall Street Journal (Tues, August 16, 1994, Addressing
Parlodel Lawsuits), "The Gerber acquistion is a $3.1 BILLION DOLLAR DEAL,
One of Gerber's most valuable assets is its image as a company mother &
babies can trust." (nice follow through after the parlodel mess.)

After speaking to Sandoz customer service (like a number of others), I feel
the company may need to be updated to the usefullness of this "orphan<ed>"
drug. Perhaps others who feel as I do (and I know there are a number) would
take the time to drop a note or make a phone call to the company, they may
realize there is a need for this medication and reconsider reinstituting
  production.

Sandoz can be written to at: 59 Route 10, East Hanover, NJ 07936-1080,
Their telephone is (201) 503-7500, FAX (201) 503-8265. The medical
representitive that customer service has referred to is Dr. Resnick his
phone
  is (201) 503-6105.

I look forward to hearing from others who feel as I do. I have included my
  address for your responces.

  Sincerely
