Someone wondered why women get angry over breast implants, drugs, etc, but we
can't seem to get them angry over failed bf support.
A LLL Leader friend suggested that women get angry when it's obvious that
something was done *to* them. Implants, drugs, birth interventions are
all done *to* them, but they perceive breastfeeding "failure" as a
personal failure. This is a culture in which you internalize your
shortcomings and muddle through quietly.
Maybe a response to the mother who "just couldn't breastfeed" could
be, "Yeah, the health profession and formula companies have really done
a number on several generations of women. It's not fair that they failed
us all when we needed accurate information and then let us think it was
somehow our fault. No wonder so many women are mad about it."
Maybe if we imply a mass movement we'll get one!
