2 month old--gaining, has good output BUT "x(maternal) pain with
breastfeeding"-- Can you
describe--clenching/clamping/biting/bruising/burning/sharp/ etc.? Where
located--entire/part of breast/areola/nipple?

Hmm..."xbaby will not open wide/protrude tonguexbaby has a small, short
tongue. The Dr. says this is not a problem (not her/his breast that are in
pain! KKG). xwhen sucking on a finger she breaks suction/will not hold on
well--curls tongue both the sides and front of her tonguexmom nurses almost
constantlyx"

I'm almost willing to say that if this baby isn't tongue-tied I'll eat my
chocolate hat! Small, short, curling tongue--inability to maintain
suction--constant and painful nursing--whoa!

Curling in front may be "humping" effect related to inability to extrude.
What does sucking finger feel like--peristaltic wave/stroking of finger or an
up and down piston-like motion? (If you don't do gloved checks, how would mom
describe?)

Is there someone in your area who is familiar with ankyloglossia and can
assess and perform frenotomy p.r.n. if pedi unwilling, e.g. dentist, ENT,
etc.? This baby may be lucky to be gaining (and it won't necessarily continue
with problem unresolved). However mom has a right to provide breastfeeding
without having to endure pain, and unresolved ankyloglossia is associated
with a fairly high rate of speech articulation problems.
