I just came from the dentist with my little one and I am FUMING.
The pediatric dentist told me that my 2 older children have so many dental
problems because they were BF beyond a year ( 3 years for each of them). He
also told me that there are studies to prove he's right. So I told him I was
an LC. Then he had the gall to give me a song and dance about the rotten
teeth he sees in babies from Le Leche mothers. "I hope you're telling mothers
they need to wean by a year," he grinned.  "Never" I replied calmly. I wanted
to scream.
All the studies I've seen have indicated the front teeth to be the problem in
bottle fed babies who sleep with a bottle. For my kids it's the molars. Ariel
(41/2) needs $ 1100.00 dollars worth of dental work for 6 cavities, 2 root
canals and 2 caps. She never slept with a bottle or a breast in her mouth.
And this guy is telling me its my fault.
As vocal as he was with his opinion even before I told him my occupation, I
know he's giving it to other mothers as well. To top it off he treats the
children of several prominent pediatricians here in town.
Any wonder why we have mother's call in tears because they've been told they
have to wean because the baby is a year old?
I'd like ammunition. ASAP
