Hi everyone. I subscribed to LACTNET right before I left for the LLLI
conference and have not had the chance to introduce myself. I am a CLC, LLL
Leader and mother of three. I am also teaching breastfeeding classes at one of
the hospitals in Omaha. I am working and studying toward the day when I have
enough clinical hours to sit for the IBCLE (I do not have a degree.)

I felt the need to respond to the Tue, 11 Jul 1995 03:21:28 message regarding
the W... R... breast pump as I was one of the LLL Leaders up at midnight for the
pump party. I had been extremely impressed by the display/article/video, but
wanted to see for myself. I am currently nursing a five month old and have
pumped with both other major brands of electric pumps. For ME, this pump was
somewhat less comfortable (enough suction to cause the shield to collapse and do
it's "milking" was slightly painful on the tip of my nipple despite repeated
attempts to position my nipple far into the shaft of the shield) and I did not
find that I was able to get a MER as quickly, nor was I able to get a large
volume quickly. Of course I have no information on my prolactin levels and this
was certainly not a scientific study! The other LLL Leader who actually tried
the pump felt that she needed a larger breast shield as her milk sinuses are
farther out from the nipple than the point at which the shield on the W... R...
pump does it's "milking action". I had been very interested in the possibility
of becoming a depot for these pumps, but I am no longer sure. If anyone else
has experience with them, I would love to hear about it.
