Judy, in La-La Land:
Finally, we see why we have been drawn to each other, kid. I left Illinois
at 22 to marry a young man from a mayan village in Yucatan,Mx. and have
lived 22 years here...exactly half my life since I was 44 in Feb. I, too,
have a lot a trouble relating to some of the tech. stuff, and psychological
schleppy stuff that is sloshed around on Lactnet since I don't have much
of a point of reference.
Just to give you a couple of cultural examples:
1) I go home for a visit to the U.S. with my infant son in the late 70's
and everyone and his brother are saying, "Pig out". ??????? What the heck,
say I, does "pig out" mean?
2) Another visit 'home' in the 80's (not feeling much like home at this
point) and the entire U.S. population is saying: "Go for it!" And I humbly
inquire, "Go for what?" duh.
3) The latest of these U.S.-isms is a combination of raising your arms in
the air and saying with great exhuberance: "Yes!"
I, too, feel that it borders on the ludicrous to express your milk so daddy
can bottle feed his child when milk production is the exclusive biological
job of the female of the species....after all, there ARE other things the
father can do with the child, and certainly refreshing (opps, My hot
tropicl climite is showing) the baby with a wonderful bath, or making the
child comfortable with nice clean diapers are wonderful and essential parts
of childcare that the father can enjoy.
If the father was mean to BF he would have come equipped with alveoli,
functioning nipples and all the rest. Or am I off base?
