Dawn -
I heard good things about the VLCA conference this year (bummed I had to miss
it), but I did not hear about the "babies at work" statement! That was
great!
I attended a one day BACE advanced bf conference this spring and was
pleasantly surprised by the number of women sitting around the room during
breaks with their breast pumps! I ended up sitting and chatting with a woman
while she pumped, and learned a lot from her since I have little personal
experience with electric pumps.
I hesitate to bring this "hot potato" up, but often I see a division between
"medical" bf people (usually nurses) and "community" bf people (usually moms
themselves who do bf work, like LLL or NMC). So many of the medical people
deal only with newborns and/or do not have children themselves, while
community bf people often deal with the older nursing child, both their own
and in their practice. We who have our own children appreciate it when bf
conferences recognize our need to keep our bf child nearby, if not actually
with us. Medical people, used to "professional" meetings, often object to
having babies present. Although they are in favor of bf itself they don't
share our "parenting philosophy". Comments from others?
Cynthia
P.S. Thank you for your VBAC Queen recognition, and have a good summer!
