Selection I have in view colonies that are truly unmanaged (or as they now
style them across the pond - 'free living').
I have not come across the term 'free living' before so not sure where that
comes from, but I would suggest that almost all feral colonies are not
really truly unmanaged as they are swarms that have escaped from managed
colonies and have therefore been selected before they swarmed. A truly
feral, unmanaged colony must be a very rare thing these days, certainly in
most of the UK.
