I just ran across an article from 1991, about so-called African bees. I thought this was interesting, Warwick Kerr speaking:
“Now I really believe that—after so many difficult years it is clear that the Africanized bee is not a bad bee, and that it has brought many difficulties but also many benefits. Not long ago, the people of Mozambique gave me a special award, for lifelong achievement, and in 1989 I was elected honorary president of Apimondia, the international society of bee scientists. I’ve been named an honorary citizen of more places than I can keep track of, and received more awards than I can count. I live here with the best wife in the world, and we have seven children and fourteen grandchildren. Despite the many problems we have had, the end result has been very positive, both for me and for Brazil. As I look back today, I am satisfied with my life, and with my work.”
Still, I asked, if he could live his life over again, would he do anything differently? He said, “I would leave those African bees where I found them.”
