Mitchell sent me a copy of his article, and I've been slogging through the models and drowning in the math. I'm reminded that all models are wrong, but some are useful - I'm not sure where these calculations land.
If a cluster is a heatsink because little to no convection occurs in the core or mantel, then it may be helpful to understand how the convective flow occurs around the cluster. Why? I'm not entirely sure, but wintering cluster dynamics are worth studying. I liked that he went back to Owens's work because we sometimes dismiss older work, but Owens collected two million data points in and around wintering clusters.
