That's why I'm gradually shifting over to top bar hives. Everything is at waist height and the heaviest thing you lift is a single comb. I build mine with the entrance at the sunny end and, working from the rear, the bees don't know you're there. The bees tend to rear their brood near the entrance and place their stores at the rear, which makes harvesting easier.
