Well, when I first started out in the mid 1970s, there were plenty of "let alone" beekeepers. Bee-havers, we called them. Most of them ended up with AFB. In fact, one actually asked me to go look at his beeyard. He had about 40 hives, a few hundred yards from some of my hives, over a hill. After looking at about 10 cases of AFB, I bailed. This is hopeless, I said. Help a guy out, he said. I don't have a backhoe, I thought. I called the County Inspector, and he got it done. He was pretty pissed with me, but his wife confided to me that she thought I had done the right thing.
