It seems logical that selective breeding and natural selection should have an equal footing to achieve a desired trait. But our current efforts at breeding don't seem capable of fixing a trait, and it may be a long time until we understand all the variables involved that would make it possible. Maybe insemination can provide an alternative shortcut, but currently, insemination gets almost immediately erased with polyandrous mating. I'm resolved that in my lifetime, controlling varroa is the best I'll be able to do.
