Thanks, Bill. I too have heard on occasion worker bees piping. Granted the bees communicate largely using chemical signals, I wonder what they are doing with vocalization in their communication. What is it that stands apart from chemical signals and piping, for instance; do they overlap? For example, when you accidentally squeeze a bee, as you might while moving the frames in and out in a tight spot, it makes protesting noise, as well. (It sounds like "Hey, you are squeezing me between the frames. Stop it and watch it!").
