I've been asking researchers about this for years -- based upon early
findings on spider mites. Amitraz is a dimer -- a double molecule that
splits into two. My question re varroa is whether it is the amitraz or the
metabolite that exhibits varroacidal activity. If it's the metabolite,
then of course comb contamination would be an issue.
This degradation to a toxic metabolite is similar to how the neonic
thiamethoxam degrades into clothianidin.
