Hello to all,

wished to share:
We suffered a big scandal in France: salmonella in infant milk (and in
other dairy products); I am wondering if France was not asked for the "milk
bridge" because of that; during that salmonelle crisis, there wasn't really
a production stock-out, but there was definitely a stock-out in the stores,
since several brands of infant milk had been taken off the store shelves;

a posteriori: it never brought women to breastfeeding, relactation, during
this phase and the following weeks, and it did not encourage the "next"
women to breastfeed; on the other hand and perhaps we cannot compare: more
than half of the boxes were missing on the shelves but we have never been
in your situation;
amazingly, it did not brought to breastfeeding, and if there were an issue
of confidence (were all boxes out of the shelves? and what if with another
brand....) - hon hon no questioning - only: is this box ok...

which brings me to another thought, which we had during the Covid and which
has been picking up again for 3 months: failing to depend on a single
company which lobbies and prevents any potential competition, I am also
thinking of depend (for us France) on as many other countries, for
practically all products, be it entertainment, technology, health, daily
life, food in an indirect way, and even including paracetamol.. I don't
think that the covid crisis makes us produce it in-situ now

in any case, to my knowledge (at my level), no crisis around infant milk
(indirect unavailability) has caused more breastfeeding in quantity or
relactation or consideration of breastfeeding by now or the next baby;of
course it is all biased but at least it can be an instant local picture.

Breast regards,
Françoise Coudray, IBCLC
