I've thought of a few intense-but-worthwhile fiction movies which are
not about breastfeeding per se, but breastfeeding features somewhat in
these films. (Sorry for the short descriptions, I'm trying not to give
away any spoilers.)
------
A scene in the film The Sweet Hereafter (1997) -- which even appears on
the DVD cover -- shows a fairly old baby (with a head full of hair)
breastfeeding in the family bed. It is depicted as completely normal. I
think this scene is in there to put the viewer into a frame of mind of
deep family and community intimacy, as background for the wrenching
tragedies that will occur.
--------
In a sweet, emotional scene in To The Bone (2017), a usually-jaded teen
who is perilously close to starving herself to death, climbs into her
mother's lap and cries "Feed me!" Her mother feeds her in a
breastfeeding position (although with homemade rice milk from a baby
bottle). It is a stand-in for the breastfeeding the girl didn't get,
which they think might have caused her anorexia.
------
The Nightingale (2018) takes place 150 years ago in Tasmania. The main
character (a singer called the Nightingale)'s breastfeeding infant is an
important part of the story. Talk about an intense and tragic film,
whew.
------
But on the lighter side, if you can possibly see the gentle comedy
series from Australia "The Let Down" (2016-2017), I highly recommend it!
In the beginning at least, it is ALL ABOUT breastfeeding.
