Hello to all,

My questioning is linked to one of "my" moms, whose daughter has
restrictive tongue frenulum; I refered the family to have a consultation
with a specialist;
family chose a ear-nose-throat specialist;
during my consultation, I explained globally the general procedure, and
discussed about taking the pain into account -> local algesia/analgesia +
paracetamol, to be discussed with the specialist;

The practitioner confirmed there is a restrictive tongue tie; then he said:
(directly from the mom's mail):
he said there were no nerves at all, so there is absolutely no need to put
anything on the frenulum before the procedure,
he said that other practitioners pretend, that they just put cold water,
(if they put something) and at least: the put absolutely no kind of
lidocaine
he said paracetamol (acetaminophen) was totally unuseful too;

So "my" mom is ready to wait until her daughter is "old" enough for a
general anesthesia, (in my country, it is rare that a tongue tie is clipped
after the baby is 2 months old and practitioner say: general
aenesthesia after 2 months old)
because from what this doctor said, she has become untrustful (and doesn't
want to take appointment and hear the same or wonder: does he/she lies
about taking care of the pain of my baby;

So i wished to share this with you, but not only to share my "that is not
possible what is wrong with that guy"
or am I, me, totally wrong?

I wished also that you shared your experiences with me,
I attended several conferences, where the speaker was the "clipper", and I
remember hearing "lidocaine" or maybe else, taking the pain into account,

it is hard here to have a practictioner for cliping ties; age of the baby
is a true problem here; practitioners are rare; and benevolence, positive
feedback of the family "we all were well-treated he:she was nice with us
and with the baby" are a way for me to give a name (or not) for referral.

So having your experiences as certified (or not) lactation consultants, and
maybe advice/experience as "clip-practitioner" if there is on the list,
would be greatly appreciated.

Breast regards,
Françoise Coudray, IBCLC wondering she has well integrated all the courses
attended around frena
