And it actually continues through childhood to adulthood.  While various
cultures have consumed varying amounts of milk-based products (including
cow, goat, sheep, horse), we have taken it to new levels and we consume
huge amounts of high fat dairy, especially cheese which we pile on
everything. And yet we also have high levels of osteoporosis, not to
mention heart disease. And then there's the soda industry, junk food,
sugar. It's all about the money. All businesses have trade-offs, the
consumers decide whether they are worth it or not and a lot of that is
dependent on education. So it's massive advertising vs low-budget education
campaigns. Read the first "Milk Matters" many years ago and it was a real
eye-opener - did a conference session on the development of the formula
industry and a lot of the information/references came from that book. Thank
you, Maureen Minchin, for doing this work.
