When I teach prenatal bf classes, I tell my students that the first few
days (usually starting Day 2) can be very intense, that your baby might
want to bf 45 minutes after finishing one feeding. I explain that the baby
is sending a message to the breasts to start making more milk for the
future when s/he will need more. I explain that breastfeeding will not
always be like that, that Baby will space out those feedings in time. And
then I go into latching techniques, when to seek help, etc. But I don't
really have a way to follow up, so I'm not sure how effective that point is
at heading off the panic & frustration.
