Hello -

There was talk a few weeks ago about a mother whose COVID-19 vaccine
apparently caused a decline in milk production.

Interesting story -- Last week a colleague here in Connecticut received a
call from a mother who tested positive for COVID-19 along with mild
symptoms. Because she had been pumping on a regular basis, she noticed her
milk volume quickly become scant, even saying that the color and
consistency of her milk looked like colostrum again! The baby also became
fussy, presumably from not being able to get her little belly full. Out of
curiosity, does anyone know of remedies (other than the standard/common
ones) that promote making milk when mother is sick?

Reporting on myself -- I got my 2nd dose of the Moderna vaccine a couple of
weeks ago and I am not sure whether it affected breastfeeding my four
month-old baby. No noticeable change in milk production, but one week after
the shot in my left arm, I started to come down with mastitis in my right
breast. (I caught the early signs and healed myself before it became
severe.) Is that a coincidence or not? I don't know! It reminds me of when
my seven year-old daughter broke out in hives for the first time ever about
one week after her very first flu shot last fall. Is that coincidence or
not?

I'd love to hear any of your thoughts or ideas about this.
