Dear Lactnet friends:

I second Holly's recommendation to have the milk cultured!

It's easy to come up with questions when one is not there, engaged with
this mother. My apologies for any lack of comprehension or understanding.

I wonder how much of this poor mother's misery comes from a questionable
diagnosis right off the bat; perhaps all the information wasn't given in
the post? Why prescribe antibiotics for a breast lump? Did she have a
fever or signs of inflammation? It was treated as if it were an abscess;
was it truly an abscess??

I wonder about the ultrasound view of the small pocket, "thought to be
milk". Shouldn't the physician know if it is milk or not?

Why stop draining that side? Could milk stasis be complicating the
situation?

I also wonder about complete drainage with a 34DDD breast; with a breast
that size, was she wearing an underwire bra that didn't fit so well on that
side? The left breast could be impinged by a seatbelt if she was driving.

Allyson, your concern and dedication is exactly what this mother needs.
Please keep us posted.

I hope Anne Eglash or Kathy Leeper or one of the other experts in
breastfeeding medicine will chime in here.

warmly,
