I have only used Medela over the past 30 years at my hospital. I have no experience with Ameda pumps at all.

I want to respond to a few comments that Ashley posted. I think she did a great thorough job comparing the Medela and Ameda.

First, the tubing that comes in the Medela Symphony (hospital grade) pump kit can be adapted very easily to use with personal use Medela pumps at home. You simply cut off, with scissors, the hard plastic cup and end and you will be left with the soft plastic tubing that works for all home models.

I have mothers deal with condensation in their Medela tubing in the following way: Immediately after pumping simply run the pump with just the tubing attached. This forces air in and out of the tubing which dries it out within a few minutes.

We do our best here in Connecticul to assist mothers to get the right pump for home use - if she is already using a Medela in the hospital we go out of our way to recommend an medical equipment provider that takes her insurance and will give her a Medela.

Patients seem to be getting more Spectra pumps to use at home along with Medela and Ameda.

I'm always amazed that nurses and lactation specialists handle equipment so well. We learn on the job. Too bad we don't take courses in equipment engineering!

Marie
