Dear Lactnet Friends;

Interesting question.

The main concern would be to keep any smoke away from the baby; so mom
should change her clothes after smoking, and before holding baby.

She shouldn't be sleeping with the baby in her bed.

This case study of one makes recommendations based on one person's
metabolism:

Here's what Kellymom says:

Smoke immediately after *breastfeeding* to cut down on *the* amount of
*nicotine* in *your milk* during nursing. Wait as *long* as possible
between smoking and nursing. It takes 95 minutes for half of *the nicotine* to
be eliminated from *your* body.Mar 17, 2018

Here's a study from 1942.....a time when it was assumed that 20% of
people wouldn't make enough milk, because no one understood at that time
the connection between breastfeeding recommendations in the hospital and
lactogenesis:

Here's what the CDC said in 2018:

The question made me curious, so I did some exploration. Thanks!

warmly,
