Dr. Hernandez is awesome, she is very interested in directing her bench research skills and interest towards human lactation. She and I have had several ideas for collaboration.

Lately she shared with me that FIL is not one protein or substance, and is not just serotonin, but rather may be the collection of bioactive factors that concentrate in the breastmilk when emptying is delayed or abruptly stopped. Somehow the concentration of these factors provide negative feedback to the lactocytes. More research is needed in this field.

She will be speaking at the ABM virtual conference, and she will be speaking for the webinar IABLE Art and Science of Breastfeeding conference that will be held in January.
