leading one or 2 LLL Mtgs a month, I have come to the conclusion that if a mom comes to one or 2 meetings while pregnant she does much better postpartum breastfeeding.  I've said I wish I had keep a record! and of course many of the moms went home with a WAB in hand :-)  While working in the files this week I found "Seeing other women breastfeed: how vicarious experience relates to breastfeeding intention and behaviour."  Hoddinott, P; Kroll, T; Raja, A; Lee, AJ.  Maternal & Child Nutrition, 2010, 6, pp.134-146.  Found that women who reported within the preceding 12 months were significantly more likely to agree with the statement -  "It was lovely to see her breastfeed."   These moms were 6 times more likely likely to intend to breastfeed!  Thought it was an interesting validation of what I think, LOL.  Pat in SNJ

I am looking for an eye catching and succinct way to distribute mothers' medications and breastfeeding to providers in my hospital. All too often, moms are told that they can't breastfeed while taking certain medications, even perfectly safe medications. Providers just haven't had education in this area.

Is anyone aware of a teaching tool that already exists?

Hi:

A pleasure to meet all of you. I don't know if you are familiar with the free tool we use in Spain, now in English.

http://www.e-lactancia.org/

It has been made by pediatricians and pharmacists who are experts in breastfeeding. It is a really easy tool to verify the compatibility of medication and breastfeeding. Includes: pharmacokinetics, the bibliography and compatible alternatives (in case these exist) and the medicine selected is not safe.
