Hi all,

My story is similar to some others. I had seen my doctor and I had
my list of questions, one included breastfeeding. He didn't even
bother to look at my breasts, and just casually said of course you
can try if you wish. I left that appointment and leant against the
corridor wall and announced to my husband through tears that I would
breastfeed and no one would tell me that I wasn't going to.

I joined the Nursing Mothers' Association of Australia (now
Australian Breastfeeding Association), went to one meeting during
school holidays where kids were all over, and watched the mums
breastfeeding. Was hooked, went to my first meeting post birth at
under 2 weeks and am still involved and became an IBCLC when I found
some IBCLC's had no actual experience with breastfeeding. And am
also an educator and assessor with BFHI.

I was looking at being less active with ABA this year, but due to
Coronovirus and many of the younger counsellors in primary health
roles and with young children, I'm back to being more active.

Regards and stay well,
Ruth Berkowitz
